An Android phone or a Windows PC hosts a private hotspot at up to 1 Gbps, and the other device joins on its own. Two iPhones use Wi-Fi Aware, and iPhones and Macs connect over peer-to-peer Wi-Fi.

The hotspot's name and password are embedded in the QR code, so the other device joins and connects in a single scan.
