Copyright and DMCA

How to tell us that a Light Share link infringes your copyright, how to answer a removal you think was a mistake, and how we deal with repeat infringers.

Last updated: 3rd November 2026This page is available in English only.

Light Share respects the rights of copyright owners and expects its users to do the same. Files sent with Internet mode are end-to-end encrypted on the sender's device: we can't see or scan them. Senders can share files with people who don't have the app through web links (lightshare.markloc.tech/d/…), so a web link is what a notice names and what we remove.

A link ends in a part after #: that part is the key to its files. Don't include it in a notice or a counter-notice: we can act on a link without it, and the forms on this page remove it before anything is sent. Local transfers (Wi-Fi, Near-by and USB) go straight between devices and never reach our servers.

Designated agent

Our agent designated to receive notifications of claimed infringement under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(2), as registered in the U.S. Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory, for Markloc Technologies Private Limited (Light Share):

Name
Onkar Ingale
Address
Markloc Technologies (OPC) Private Limited, 2nd Floor, Panjewale Complex, Mira Nagar, IMS Road, Jule Solapur, Solapur, Maharashtra 413004, India

Send notices and counter-notices with the forms below, or to the agent by email or post. The agent only handles copyright notices; for anything else, write to support@markloc.tech or report abuse.

Send a copyright notice

Under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3), a notice of claimed infringement must be a written communication that includes all of the following:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed or, if a single notice covers several works, a representative list of them.
  3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing that is to be removed, with information reasonably sufficient for us to locate it: on Light Share, the web link (lightshare.markloc.tech/d/…) or its id, without the part after #.
  4. Information reasonably sufficient for us to contact you: your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

A notice that leaves out any of these may not be acted on. When we receive a complete notice, we remove the link or disable access to it, and the sender's app shows that the link was removed after a copyright notice, with the way to send a counter-notice. Because we can't open the files, we act on the links you name.

Misrepresentation has consequences.

Under 17 U.S.C. §512(f), anyone who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake or misidentification, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees. If you aren't sure whether material infringes your rights, for example whether a use is fair use, consider asking a lawyer first.

The work and where it is

Title, author and where it is published or registered. For several works, a representative list.

One link per line, with a note if it helps. Don't paste the part after #: it's the key to the files, and we don't need it.

For example, whose behalf you are acting on.

Counter-notice

If a link of yours was removed after a copyright notice and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notice. Under 17 U.S.C. §512(g)(3), it must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the material that was removed or to which access was disabled, and where it appeared before: the link, without the part after #.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located or, if your address is outside the United States, any judicial district in which Light Share may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice or their agent.

What happens next:

  • We promptly forward a copy of your counter-notice, including your name and contact details, to the person who sent the original notice, and tell them we will restore access in 10 business days.
  • We restore access no sooner than 10 and no later than 14 business days after we receive your counter-notice, unless the person who sent the notice first tells us they have filed a court action seeking to restrain you from the claimed infringement.
  • Unless such a court action is filed, the copyright strike is withdrawn from your account. A link that ended in the meantime (it expired, or its files were already deleted) can't come back; you can share the files again in a new link.

The §512(f) warning above applies to counter-notices too. If you are outside the United States, sending a counter-notice means accepting the jurisdiction described above.

The removed material

Repeat infringers

We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright.

  • Every link we remove after a valid copyright notice gives the sender's account a copyright strike, unless a counter-notice reverses it. Copyright strikes are counted separately from strikes for other abuse.
  • An account with 3 upheld copyright strikes within 12 months is terminated: every link it shared stops working and it can no longer use Internet mode.
  • Each strike expires 12 months after it was given.

India: Grievance Officer

Under Rule 3(2) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, you can complain about content on Light Share, or about how we handled a report, to our Grievance Officer:

Grievance Officer
Onkar Ingale Markloc Technologies Private Limited, Solapur, Maharashtra, India

We acknowledge every complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days of receiving it.

European Union: notice and action

Under Article 16 of the EU Digital Services Act, anyone can tell us about content on Light Share they consider illegal. Use the notice form above for copyright, or report abuse for anything else, with the link, why you consider it illegal, and your name and email (a report of child sexual abuse material can be anonymous). We handle notices in a timely, diligent, non-arbitrary and objective manner, and tell you what we decided when you give us your email.

When we remove a link or restrict an account, we give the person affected a statement of reasons under Article 17: what we did and how far it goes, the facts and circumstances we relied on, whether automated means were involved (links reported by several people are held for review automatically), the law or the part of our Terms of Service it rests on, and how to contest it.
